HOW TO REGISTER A HISTORIC VEHICLE

If your historic vehicle is 30 years of age or older, you may be eligible for historic vehicle registration.

You can apply for registration of historic vehicles under the Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS). This includes ordinary passenger cars, utilities, light commercial, buses and Special Purpose Vehicles.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the HVS through Series Land Rover Down Under Motor Club:

  • your vehicle must be at least 30 years of age or older from the year it was manufactured. The vehicle must not be modified.
  • your vehicle must comply with the applicable vehicle standards as at the date of vehicle manufacture.
  • your vehicle must be as close to original condition as possible, with no alterations except for safety features such as seatbelts, turn indicators or period options, accessories and safety items.
  • You must be a member of Series Land Rover Down Under Motor Club.

Conditional Registration will be issued on an annual basis with an administrative fee, and  number plate fee (only payable when establishing a registration), and Compulsory third Party (CTP) insurance under the Motor Accidents Act, 1988, which will be collected by Transport for NSW (TfNSW), on behalf of QBE Insurance Company.

All vehicles must be declared as suitable for safe use by undertaking a Safety Check inspection (pink slip) at an Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) Station for the first two years of the club’s status as an TfNSW recognised Historic Vehicle Club.  Historic vehicle registration will be dealt with only through the representative of the Club, upon certification that the owner is a member and that the vehicle is roadworthy. Conditional registration will be restricted to events organised under the auspices of the Club, travelling to and from starting and finishing points of the Club events, movement necessary for the servicing of the vehicles and those clubs listed under the 60 Logbook Scheme.

Vehicles registered under the Scheme are issued with standard Historic vehicle plates, Certificate of Registration and a Certificate of Approved Operations. All general road rules also apply to vehicles registered in the Scheme. Vehicles must also obey all club rules and regulations including the policy for Historic Vehicles as outlined on the on the Transport Website.
